Background:

Exdiem wines are a selection of Single Vineyard Wines. The grapes are all from the Wentzel Family’s farm, Vredelus, with its unique soil, climate, and location on the foothills of the Langeberg.

All these wines are made with minimal interference throughout the vinification. No enzymes, but only natural yeast is used during fermentation and maturation takes place in neutral vessels to bring through the unique vineyard character.

The winemaker is Lourens van der Westhuizen.

Climate:

Macroclimate is the Mediterranean. Mesoclimate is influenced by everyday South Easter during summer, morning fog in winter, big variation in day, night temperatures, Langeberg and Riviersonderend Mountain range, and the position of the farm in a small isolated valley.

PINOT NOIR

 

Soil:    Stoney silt.

 

Location of vineyard:  Grown against the Langeberg Mountains,  South facing slope, Klaasvoogds West, Robertson South Africa.

 

2015 EXDIEM PINOT NOIR

 

Nose:  Roses, black cherries and rasberries.

Pallet:  Silky with gentle tannin.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 14%

Residual sugar: 3.4g/l

Acidity: 5.6g/l

pH: 3.56

WINE NOTES

 

CHENIN BLANC

 

Soil:    Sandy silt next to river.

 

Location of vineyard:  Grown against the Langeberg Mountains, next to a river, Klaasvoogds West, Robertson South Africa.

 

Nose:  Ripe fruit with a hint of citrus.

Pallet:  Light, but complex, well balanced acid.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 12.93%

Residual sugar: 2.1g/l

Acidity: 7.1g/l

EXDIEM ROSE

 

Soil:    Stoney silt.

 

Location of vineyard:  Grown against the Langeberg Mountains,  South facing slope, Klaasvoogds West, Robertson South Africa.

 

Cultivar: Pinot Noir.

Color: Rose gold.

Nose:  Rose petals and fresh strawberries.

Pallet:  Fresh, with enough structure to leave a long-lasting aftertaste.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 14.12%

Residual sugar: 2.4g/l

Acidity: 7.3g/l

pH: 3.09

WINE NOTES

 

EXDIEM CHENIN BLANC/HANEPOOT

 

Soil:    Sandy silt next to river.

 

Location of vineyard:  Grown against the Langeberg Mountains, next to a river, Klaasvoogds West, Robertson South Africa.

 

Blend: 55% Chenin Blanc and 45% Hanepoot.

Nose:  Typical muscat.

Pallet:  Contrary to what you expect after the nose it is dry and delicate.

Analysis:

Alcohol: 12.63%

Residual sugar: 1.9g/l

Acidity: 6.5g/l

pH: 3.13

In 2014 the first wines, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc and a Rose were made from the grapes grown on the farm. This is the beginning of an exciting future for Exdiem Wines. The team, winemaker and owners, are committed to producing excellent grapes and to make stunning wine.
